The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) says it will use the donation from the voter to help people displaced by the conflict in Tigray State. The agency added that the aid will help provide food to 2 million people in need of food aid over the next six months.
The World Food Program (WFP) says it is currently providing maize, rice and oil to 60,000 displaced people in Tigray. In addition to providing emergency food assistance, the organization is also providing nutritious food to infants, pregnant and lactating mothers.
"We are very concerned about the food security situation in Tigray," said Baron Segar, president of the World Program.
The Ethiopian government says 4.5 million people in Tigray are in need of emergency food aid and has requested the World Food Program to provide assistance to 1.4 million.
According to the organization, the clashes that erupted in Tigray State on October 30, 2013 coincided with the harvest season.
